4 Common Squat Mistakes AND How to Fix Them

April 11, 2018

I can't tell you how many times people tell me they can't do squats because they hurt their knees (or other area of their body).

As a trainer, this makes me so incredibly sad because squats are one of THE best exercises you can do for your lower body. They target your quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes AND core muscles all in one shot...I mean they are a powerhouse move!

And provided, you don't have a major injury you SHOULD be able to do squats pain free.

One of my favourite things to do when I hear the "I can't do squats" comment is to get the "I can't squat" individual to show me how they squat. 99% of the type there are some technique issues that can be easily corrected with a little instruction.

So I created a little video tutorial that covers the 4 Common Squat Mistakes I see all the time as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor. Don't worry if you make these mistakes. It's not your fault if no one taught you. That's my job!

Check out the video below to learn the RIGHT way to squat so you can actually target the muscles you wanna work on.

In the video I'll also cover some real actionable tips to help you fix your "squat problems "and start squatting pain free (and correctly) right away so you can actually target and tone the muscles you want to hit!

Here are the Mistakes we'll cover in the video (tune in to see how to fix these):

Mistake #1: Squatting from your Knees instead of your Hips (ouch!)

Mistake #2: Not Going Low Enough; how this is not doing you any favours

Mistake #3: The Sandwich Fold (this one is super common!)

Mistake #4: Using the Wrong amount of Weight (too much OR too little)

Once you've mastered your squat, you will unlock the power to transform your entire lower body AND your core! I recommend adding squats into your workout 2-3 times a week. Start with 3 sets of 12-15 and increase your weight once you feel like the last few reps aren't majorly challenging.

Happy Squatting!
